Wed 29 Aug 2012 Practice 150+ balls

After a break .... and reading a book called The Negotiable Golf Swing by Joseph Laurentino...

Pw, 9i, 7i, 5i, 4r and3w.

Hitting with the new "take away" away from my body hitting the ball seems much more reliable.

Really enjoyed this.

May get false sense of progress from range matts.

Hit quite a few off tee.

:-)

Tue 21 Aug 2012 Lesson

Main thing this week: take my arms away from my body NOT pull them in.

This was obvious to me for the first time on explaiar where my left arm remained in front of my chest on the takeaway.

Breakthrough?.

Mon 20 Aug 2012 Practice 108 Balls

After a break and a bit of watching utube golf and a bit of reading about golf.

A guy called Mo Norman hitting easy...
Some pro doing a demo at Taunton golf club... made me LOL.

Took 9i 7i 5i 4r 3w and driver.

I discovered that when i setup the club behind the ball and swing sometimes (often) I hit the stick rather then the club face. The result is a massive embarrassing right...

When I set up the club nearer the toe of the club I never did this again.

The shorter the club the closer to the center I can setup without danger.

The longer the club the closer to the toe.

What does this mean? I assume as I swing .. gravity stretches my arms...

I practiced a mixture of chip and run (good) and swing back and through (variable).

Not too depressing! Fun in-fact!

Tue 13 Aug 2012 Paultons Park

With R.

No great score butI did enjoy it. I hit some great chip and run type shots. Did not play any penalties off tee so a bit of a cheat. This has given me a bit of confidence back. :-)

Mon 12 Aug 2012 Practice 200+ balls

New swing try to hit 2 in a row then move up a club. Not all that successful 50% went very right. In the end played a few chip and run type shots (short swing with V shape) with all clubs and hit the ball a lot better than with proper swing... grr.

At least I have a way to play golf without being totally rubbish. So much for 1 swing and not going back...

Sat 11 Aug 2012 Chichester

Just me and M. We ended up behind a very slow 4 ball which gave us a lot of waiting time. There were 2 good players behind us which also put a bit of pressure on us from the tee.

20 ball warm up.

Neither of us scored very well and we lost several balls. A bit strange that neither of us seemed to know how to play the holes. Hey ho thats golf...

Fri 10 Aug 2012 Playing lesson

An hour lesson to see what happens to me playing real golf.

The first hole was played with no comment. It was not very good (true to form).

The next 3 holes were played with tuition.

Spent some time practicing in a bunker.

Spent some time chipping onto the green.

Spent some time putting.

Spent some time hitting my 3 wood which I generally avoid.

The main error discovered was my failure to follow a shot through and hold the final pose.
I think what happens is I look where the ball is going and quit on the follow through in disgust.

A few balls were lost but thats golf.

That was the hour done and I played the last 5 myself. Reasonable last 5 holes. Perhaps I should become a lone golfer.

Thu 9 Aug 2012 Practice on grass

With R a practice on grass instead of just playing every week.

This was a bargin 1 quid.... use your own balls.... stay as long as you like.

It was a field with one side fairway and one side rough. At first there was no space on the fairway so we lost a few balls, but found a few so no real problem.

As usual I was rubbish at first but once R got fed up and went I improved 100%.

At the end of the day I was there for about 3 hours and hit some nice balls.

Tue 7 Aug 2012 Practice 54 balls

Lunch time practice.

Decided that I would not do my old swing anymore...

Just a 9 iron, after a few duff shots it seemed to work.

Borrowed the torture ball from the Pro-shop.. not as bad as on other occasions.

Sun 5 Aug 2012 Practice 108 balls

Between the Olympics Events...

9i 7i 4r and 3w.

Took more time then last week as not in rush.

First time I have practiced 3w for long time.

Not too bad.

New pair of shoes as I have worn out my first pair of golfing shoes...

Fri 3 Aug 2012 18 Holes Chichester

With M in afternoon.

A bad start with 2 smashed into undergrowth next to first tee. But then relax and hit the green on next attempt. I did not score well but did not have any nightmare holes so enjoyed the game. After handicap M beat me but it was close enough to be fun.

I found that I could get my grip right by interlocking fingers to setup and just unlocking before hitting ball. I wonder if its all about grip?

Things looking up a bit...

Thu 2 Aug 2012 not quite 18 holes Paultons Park

Ugh...

With R after work.

No confidence. Balls in rough from tee. After 9 we decided to go round 1st 9 again as there was quite a queue. Did not even take my score on 2nd time round. Not much fun for R when your opponent is dejected...

No score recorded (First 7 were bad).

I think that my expectations have been raised recently but perhaps to unrealistic levels.

Tue 31 Jul 2012 Lesson 12/25

On warmup all seemed OK but as soon as lesson started it all fell apart. Not helped by the fact that I picked up my 4i instead of my 7i. I could not hit the ball. I obviously looked miserable as my Instructor commented that I looked like a "sad frog".

I suspect that 95%of my golf problems come from being to tense and a general lack of confidence.

I the lesson I used a plastic grip fixed to my normal club. From this I found that my grip had been too far across my palm. The new grip felt much more comfortable and made an immediate improvement. By the end of the lesson I was hitting the ball again. :-)

Lets see if it works away from the range.
