So this was a free round for 2 with some balls or something.
It is also the biggest golf course we had been to. "Championship" sounds awesome.
We were scared (well I was).
We turned up in plenty time. The car park was full (almost).
The weather was bright but freezing cold.
When we went to claim our tee time we were informed that trolleys were not allowed.
Aaargh... my bag is heavy and M did not have a strap.
Hey ho we want to play golf so off we go to car and dump at least half of our sticks.
We have 50 balls between us for practice and get to the practice zone. Is outside on the top of a hill and he wind is strong and its double freezing. I can hardly hit the ball...
Off to the tee. We wait behind a 4 ball and a 2 ball and are followed by a 3 ball. The 2 ball before us offer for us to join them. We politely refuse as we have no idea how we will manage.
I find that each hole is quite long but dont panic. The progress is very slow and we have to wait for the 2 ball to start at every hole.
Its pretty even between myself and M. We start to struggle at about the 7th where the 2 ball get a gap ahead of us and we cant catch up. By the time we get to the 9th we are knackered. The walk from 9th to 10th is a long one and we have to pass our better halves in the car park. They encourage us to carry on and dont worry about the time.
As we start the final 9 we realise that at least 2 groups infront have called it a day. So we are on our own. We quickly realise that we may struggle to complete in daylight. I am annoyed as I have left my special glowing golf ball at home!
In the end we both manage to complete the course (catching up with a 4 ball followed by a 2 ball).
I leave my 5 iron on the 17th tee and only realise at the 18th. Hey ho. M makes a start on the long par 5 in the gloom and I run half a mile to get my stick and hit my tee shot n the dark. I am confident that it is a good one but it is too dark to find. I make my way to the last flag using a 7 iron and get to the flag in 10. M has played a blinder and got a par 5!
Ok so it was not a great score, but, we learnt something!
