Mon 8 Apr 2013 Brodick 18 Hole Thawing Out

Day 3 of the Arran challenge.

With (part time) caddy A and buddy M.

We went to the bakery for bacon rolls, square sausage and cheese pasty. Cheese pasty was molten. Butties were acceptable. The wind was freezing.

Early start again no-one available to pay. We were the first to tee off. I started off on the fairway but M went right. The next thing I knew M was even more right and took a long time adjusting his clothes to accommodate the freezing wind. I made steady progress to the green and M did a great shot in from the right. A draw on the first hole .. there is more than 1 way to get to the pin!

At the end of the day I messed up 3 holes, the 8th with a dog leg left and where the green was on a raised section, the 14th which was a simple par 3 (I got stuck in the ditch then lost a ball at sea) and the final hole where I hit a ball into to stream. (Not helped by the guy practicing across the last fairway!)

The start and end of this course were links style, the middle triangle is a very nice bit of parkland followed by a bit by the sea. Great fun to play. Mark remarked "Pebble Beach this isn't" but I have never been to Pebble Beach so can't comment.

We hardly saw anyone just a couple of 4 balls about 3 or four holes behind us. They never caught up.

Two holes were of particular interest as they crossed the river. We both got over the first but M lost one on the way back and I took the short chicken route.

This was our first flat golf on Arran.

Our luck with the weather continued with a gradual warming up from start to finish.

We did not forget to get the golf pass marked in the Pro Shop.

My round can be seen here. M's round is here.

I won 8 holes, M won 7. Very close! (If only M had putted better!)
results.

My total = 18+8=26
M total = 10+7=17
Me +9

Not just cold!
