With M on bank holiday monday. M paid 15 quid each, not bad for bank holiday. We were due to start at 4 ish but we were told to go when we were ready. M was in the buggy but he thinks that his feet are recovering so thats good. Neither of us had any quids for the practice balls so we set off early without practice.
The weather was forecast to be showers and they were not wrong. I think it was almost one solid shower. As the game wore on we struggled with the wet and it got cold, quite poor so near to June. I am fairly sure that both our scores would have been better on a nice warm day. There was not much roll!
There was no one in front and as we finished the 1st we saw 2 golfers start. We were pleased to keep ahead of the 2 behind as we both played sensible golf without much searching for balls. They followed us until the 14th where I had bug bunker trouble and M hit a ball over the par 3. We called the 2 followers through and watched them both get an easy par.
M won the first 2 holes but then it was pretty even on the front 9. M was 1 up. I made a bit of a charge in the middle with a run of 4 5's on par 4's. But in the end I think M won by 1 hole. The score cards were soggy and I misread them thinking I had managed a draw on the last hole but after drying them out I think M won by 1 hole. UPDATE: it was a draw after all.
M's 3W was not working as well as in earlier weeks perhaps due to the weather? I played reasonably well with 7 proper golf scores (all bogeys, no pars). However I messed up 4 holes which is at least 2 too many and my putting was down by 3. I messed up the 3rd after playing well to just short of the green, then a duff and going over was my downfall. I also messed up the difficult 6th after getting to the green in 4 and then 4 putting. I messed up the easy 11th by going left and then 3 putting. Lastly I messed up the big bunker par 3 with an unlucky bounce from 1 side to the other. I can remember at least 5 putts that stayed up when they might have dropped. On the plus side my 4i was working well from the tee with 12 FIRs. I also experimented with a chip and run type 4i shot from the fairway when >150. This mixing of styles was suggested by R, am hoping it will improve my second shot from the fairway.
My score is click here.
The weather was so poor that I did not even take one picture. Still good fun and the Geller trophy says North. I need to check but I think there is a handicap modification of 27v28 from 26v28.
