Sun 4th May 2014 - 18 Holes at Stoke Rochford

The one where I lost my scorecard in the bar!

LATE UPDATE: M left his scorecard on the Buggy so this one was one which is left to the imagination!

This was a family weekend away up in the North. Needless to say, a few beers were consumed on the night before (not always helpful to golfers!). We had a 2:30 tee-time but we arrived early (M playing and A2 supposed to be ball spotting). The cost was 22 50 each and M still has bad feet so needed a buggy.

There was no-one waiting so we set off early. We were following no-one and being followed by no-one which was as good as it gets. I always find Stoke Rochford has fairways that start a long way away so for my first few holes I came up short of the fairway. Still I was straight so it only cost an odd shot. M went left from he first tee and took a few holes to settle down. I made steady progress but I found the greens were quite tough to get the ball to stick and I had quite a few where I got on the green but ended up over the back. The greens at SR are quite large, a few par 3's here!

I played well up to and including the 7th over the first valley to the par3. On the 8th it looked easier as they had removed the trees, however I still lost a ball from the tee. On the 9th over the wide valley I messed up and put a ball in the water (A2 did some great ball fishing here to rescue it). M on the other hand loves this hole and managed to get his driver working easily. I played well on the 10th, 11th and 12th but muffed the shot back across the valley on the 13th (This time M rescued my ball). During this section M managed some spectacular drives. On the last holes I always relax and played quite well. On the long par 3, 17th I almost made the green on my first shot and completed my only par of the day.

On the first 7 I was winning easily, M made a mini comeback from the 9th but faded on the last few holes. So the Geller Trophy is mine till next time.

On return to the bar I had my scores checked and promptly left them on the table and they must have been tidied away as they were no where to be found after the meal and a couple of beers. Hey ho.

I can confirm that my score was 111 and I may be able to re-construct the shorthand when M sends my scores by e-mail.
