We had a 10 quid tee time at just after 5pm. A bargain! We set off following a 3 ball and were followed by a lone golfer. The 3 in front let us through on the dreaded 5th and we then had no one holding us up in front .. always a good thing! Never saw the lone golfer again.
Can be a bit stressful playing with a new golfer but this was fine. I set off well with a green from the first tee. J went left and we started with a respectable 4 and 5. On the 2nd I managed to hit the fairway from the tee and J went right. Over the first 9 I played well (for me) and J got steadily better, especially when his 3W got going, there were several good fairways hit. On the other hand my tee shots got worse and I was only saved by some good recovery shots with my favourite 4r and some lucky long putts.
After the front 9 I was a few holes up but J made a charge in the middle and we ended up equal on match play (on the least hole). I might have won by a couple of shots but pretty equal which is always fun! We both made one par mine on the par 3:8th and J on the par 4:18th. We both made a complete mess of the tough 17th.
The weather was great just like summer and we finished well before the sun went down.
As usual great fun and I look forward to a repeat of this later in the year.
My score is click here.
I managed a proper golf score on 5 holes and messed up only 2 (which is ok by my standards). The 15th was messed up due to a duff from the tee and going over the back, funny because this is usually an easy hole. On the 17th I had a bad tee shot a couple of duffs, a lost ball and 2 bunkers, I saved a 12 with a good 1 putt. (Sigh). Without the poor tee shots and a bit of concentration towards the end my score should have been a better.
